Songs of Sinatra!

Harry Connick Jr. is here, not only mentoring but arranging the songs for the contestants. (Shania Twain didn't do this he points out).

Aaron is first (Not sure the song title but it's something we all know...). I thought he was pretty good. The problem is (and everyone may get this) is that if they sing the songs as written, it's going to sound terribly old fashioned. And he did. Simon says it lacked conviction like Sinatra would have. Did we just compare Aaron to Sinatra and say he's not as convincing? Are we kidding?

Next up is Casey with BLUE SKIES. I didn't like it. Again, it was old fashioned (we need Adam Lambert to go against the grain here) and it was all over the place. Really badly sung. Simon jokes he can go play with his friend (off the show) next week. REALLY bad. Judges skewered him.

Crystal to sing SUMMER WIND. For a personal reason. I don't know the song, and they are talking about personal reasons, etc. - it's going to be totally subdued, boring and indulgent. Book it. Not as bad as I thought but kind of dull. Not her fault - it's Harry Connick Jr's fault. All these arrangements are old fashioned and boring. No one loved it, everyone kind of liked it, Simon disliked the song choice and Crystal argued. I don't like her as a contestant to be honest. She might win by default, kind of like Taylor did. She doesn't go out there to kill it ever, she doesn't seem like she cares.

Michael Lynche with THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT. See - he gets it. Who knows if it will be good or not but at least it's a choice that can do fantastic if he does it right. Harry Connick Jr. tells him to think of his girl and how she looks "friggin gorgeous". Starts off slow but then picks up. It's arranged to show off his vocals more. I actually like Kara's comment, that he was really good, was out of his element but still Big Mike. Simon says this was by far the best and I agree. Big Mike is back!

Lee Dewyze to close out the show with THAT'S LIFE. Him and Harry looked like they had a good time. I like this. Lee is hamming it up but in a good way (he still is Lee, as opposed to Didi who went into showtune mode). Nice to see him showing some personality. Up there with Mike as the best of the night. Kara makes the point he can win. I think so too. Simon makes the point he really brought out his personality and confidence. Great end.

You know, I think Crystal is bottom three tomorrow with Aaron and Casey. She deserves to be.
